The Thing I Wish I Had

Writer: Aja Lee FaassèAja Lee Faassè

This is me, writing about the book I am currently working on with an amazing Editor and Writer (Cheri Kephart). This is the story of the Thing I wish I had.

The thing about self-healing and wellness and health books, of which I have read so many, is that they are amazing stories and yet all the modalities and how-tos, still left me having to experiment, figure out and navigate my own healing journey. Because we are all physically different, on different spiritual journeys, and come from different experiences, backgrounds, and have a myriad of different reactions to all sorts of things, and after trying every idea I could come across for 35 years, ultimately led me to the truth that there is no one right way to heal. This is why there are sooo many books on diet, on surgery, on everything. All the books I read helped me, no doubt about it, and I am so grateful for each one of them, and over the years I wondered what my contribution would be when I healed.

Well, I did heal, and these last 8 months I have been channeling what used to be days and weeks of pain and rolled them into my writing time.

I am writing my book because I don't want anyone to feel as lost, hopeless, or alone as I felt while trying to imagine a life without chronic pain and how on earth I could get there.

I have created something to make things better for you, or for someone you love.

When we see someone suffering it can be hard to think of what to do for them, and when we ourselves are suffering it can be very hard to function, focus, feel hopeful, and even have a place to keep all the things you tried, what worked and what didn't. Doctors ask all kinds of questions, sometimes we don't have the answer to and I wish I had had a little handy guide with me to remember what I had been through, what I had tried, who told me what, all the ups and downs easily accessible so I could hand it to them to try and give them an accurate picture of what I had been experiencing.

I know we have to be our own advocates for healing and I feel so honored to have been able to walk with many loved ones as they battled, asked questions, and wondered where their diagnosis, or lack of diagnosis would take them. Some of my loved ones made it to the other side, some of them did not, and as I wondered my own fate I came across the realization for my contribution to the realm of healing.

Every morning I journal and jot down all my ideas, as a creative it helps me to get a clear focus for the day and move all of my thoughts into a physical space for a moment, I could feel that I was cocooning, my mind was percolating with what would soon become my offering in gratitude for finally healing after all these years.

Finally it came to me, I would create a safe and organized space, in the shape of a book. A sherpa, a guide of sorts. Somewhere to start or continue your healing journey off on a good foot.

A way to skip ahead on all of the things I learned the long way around.

A single location full of health check-ins, anecdotal short stories of healing and ways of thinking to get you through it, hope, organizational tools for keeping updates and logs, a multi-media haven that walks with you day by day.

Thank you for joining me on this journey, taking the time to read this story, and now let's begin to create more healing together!

Love,

Aja
